A Team Effort: From Parts to a Whole

Two weeks ago, Petals had a typical week. For the past several weeks, the Petals class has enjoyed hosting student visitors from Elon College and APO fraternity from UNC. This week we had our usual Petals team busily preparing these random acts of kindness! Even with a much smaller group of volunteers, we created almost 30 pieces!
This blog post will outline the process from glass bottle to floral masterpiece!

Some of our volunteers collect and clean the bottles prior to class. They take the labels off so that the bottles come to us bright and shiny! The first step once the bottles get to us is to cover them in twine to add a decorative feel. The twine is hot glued to the bottle by our awesome volunteers (seen above).
Before the bottles are sent to the next step, a decorative branch is also hot glued to the twine and a pretty ribbon ties it all together!

Once the bottles are all decorated, it's time for the fun part: FLOWERS! Every week the flowers are donated by our local partners, including Whole Foods. Everyone enjoys cutting the flowers and delicately choosing a colorful and beautiful arrangement.

After the vases are filled with water and flowers, the next step is a quality control check. Becky helps everyone check all of the vases to make sure they have enough water, are filled with enough flowers, and look pretty!

The final products are tagged with hand-made "Petals with a Purpose" tags and arranged for pickup. These were not only distributed to our Meals on Wheels partner, but some of them were also sent to foster homes, to brighten as many days as possible! :)
